All are welcome at our open rehearsal of the test piece ahead of the area contest on Saturday. The Albermarle, Hull at 8pm on Thursday 12th March. The atmospheric piece – The Golden Sabre by Kit Turnbull – was inspired by the exploits of a Russian Calvary officer.
At the time of writing the band is busy preparing to compete in the 2nd Section contest of the North of England Brass Band Championships in Durham in mid-March. The band seats are full – as is the rehearsal schedule! The band’s spring programme is also looking busy with concerts at Burnby Hall Gardens, Pocklington on Sunday 19th April, Harrogate Spring Flower Show on Sunday 26th April and a V.E. Commemoration event at Normanby Hall Country Park on Friday 8th May. We are also excited to be taking part in Barton Arts Week; we will be performing with our patron, Sax-man Snake Davis, in St. Mary’s Church on Tuesday 30th June. As Snake says: ‘Sax with a brass band? Should it be allowed? Will it work? Of course it will!’ Come along and see for yourselves. www.bartoncommunityband.co.uk Twitter: @BartonCmntyBand
